Jack in the Box Wiki

Jack Box, Jr. is the son of Cricket and Jack Box, with a large white head closely resembling that of his father's. He was introduced in a 1996 commercial playing pee-wee football with an oversized helmet, but his face was not seen until 1998's Election Ad.

In his initial appearances, Jack Jr. was depicted as a young child with a yellow and orange propeller cap. His choice of headwear eventually shifted to a red baseball cap with the letter S on it. In a purported self-portrait, he drew himself with a conical yellow hat identical to his father's, which he has never been seen wearing.[1]

After a decade-long hiatus, Jack Jr. resurfaced in a 2023 video for Father's Day.[2] He is currently portrayed as a college student, with a deeper voice, black hoodie, and purple beanie.

Biography[]

Jack Jr. was born at some point between 1989 (his parents' first meeting, per Hot Mess) and 2005 (assuming he is 18 in 2023, per current continuity). He was named after his father, Jack, who in turn was named after his father's favorite type of cheese.[3]

During his childhood, Jack Jr. was an inquisitive young boy. While playing catch, he asked his father if they were different from other people.[4] In another instance, he asked him about the differences between girls and boys, before losing interest.[5] In later years, Jack Jr. would continue to consult his father, including asking for dating advice.[6]

Jack Jr. once expressed his wish to become a veterinarian during a school presentation, but confused the word with vegetarian, to the embarrassment of his parents.[7]

In early 2009, Jack Jr. taught his father how to tweet,[8] and later hijacked his account to tweet "Monkey butts!"[9][10] The two attended a Los Angeles Lakers game in 2011.[11] However, the relationship may have become strained after Jack Jr. caught Jack attempting to take money from his piggy bank in the middle of the night.[12]

Jack Jr. may have musical inclinations. In 2009, Jack mentioned that his son received a drum set.[13] The following year, Jack discovered a CD from the xx in Jack Jr.'s room and remarked that he "has excellent taste in music."[14]

In a 2010 Facebook post, Jack expressed annoyance that his assistant was late to pick up his son.[15] As Jack has been known to spend long nights at the office and goes on frequent business trips, this may indicate a level of distance from his son's life.

While not officially involved in Jack in the Box business, Jack Jr. came up with the idea of the Jumbaco and was dismayed to learn it was killed after his father was unable to convince executives to greenlight it.[16]

While attempting to teach his son how to change a tire, Jack became annoyed when his son refused to help him, claiming he was on a "break." A video description noted that he "may or may not have taken a break the whole time 👀."[2]

The day after dropping him off at college, Jack made a video call with Jack Jr. and reminisced about getting curly fries from Jack in the Box with him. [17]

Behind the scenes[]

In a 2021 TikTok video, actor Jake Thomas revealed he had played Jack Jr. in a handful of commercials. In marked contrast to Jack Box's head, which features special goggles that allow the actor to see outside via a camera hidden in the nose, Thomas had no way of seeing outside of Jack Jr.'s head. This arrangement proved especially troublesome during the filming of Are We Different, in which the two characters play catch.[18]

The head currently used for Jack Jr. is of noticeably lesser quality, with screened fabric in the eyes for the performer to see through.
