An assortment of breakfast items served at Jack in the Box.
Breakfast is the first meal of the day usually eaten in the morning.[1] The word in English refers to breaking the fasting period of the previous night.[2] Various "typical" or "traditional" breakfast menus exist, with food choices varying by regions and traditions worldwide.
In the fast food industry, breakfast is usually considered its own category, consisting of foods like breakfast sandwiches, breakfast burritos, hotcakes, and hash browns.
In 1969, Jack in the Box became the first fast food chain to offer a breakfast sandwich, the Breakfast Jack.[3] McDonald's followed suit in 1972 with what would become the Egg McMuffin.[4] Burger King launched its own breakfast menu in 1978, introducing the Croissan'wich in 1983.[5]
Unlike many of its competitors, Jack in the Box has served breakfast all-day since 1991,[6] although it initially varied by location.
